But my eyes are not sound. Filmy, vaseline-smeared lenses that do not focus no matter how I tilt the page or squint into the light.
This garden gnome is sinking as the page is dimming. Squat, sturdy body folds awkwardly as its low centre of gravity pulls away from the one foot still in this world.

Thanks, Louise. My cataract surgery was cancelled due to COVID and it is getting more and more difficult to read. I pay extra for large print whenever possible. Oh, and I am shrinking! haha. I’ve lost an inch and 3/16ths and now stand 4’10”, hence the garden gnome reference.

Sorry to hear about the cataract surgery! I have a girlfriend here who had the same thing happen. She’s had to quit driving — I love the garden gnome reference. In my mind, reading your words and following along here, you appear very tall! 🙂 But being not so tall is lovely — I’m 5’2 and haven’t shrunk yet — the only challenge with my height are high shelves! 🙂
