My husband and I took a road trip today to the charming little town of Almonte, Ontario today to visit his sister who has just moved into a residence there.
As we entered the town, we passed a cafe/shop called Hummingbird Chocolate and something tweaked in my memory. Then I remembered my friend Gen had written about the town of Almonte, including this chocolate factory, on her blog last week and I had made a mental note to visit it one of these days. What a happy coincidence.
We decided to check out the factory on our way back. I picked up some gourmet dark chocolate and a much needed latte for the ride home.

When it comes to road trips, I am generally not very patient though being in the passenger seat is slightly more tolerable than driving. Healthy snacks and a quality coffee to go in my travel mug help as does my iPod classic set to shuffle. My iPod has about 13 000 curated songs and as such, a lot of long-forgotten tunes tend to line up, to our great delight. It helps that my husband and I have similar tastes in music so there are no arguments about changing the channel.
Here a few of the fab tunes we rediscovered today.
1. Jack Pearson: Feel Like A Stranger. Mind you, our version was 14 minutes and 35 seconds!
2. Donald Fagan: Walk Between Raindrops
3. Odetta : Maybe She Go
4. Jimmy Lafave: Positively 4th Street
5. Doug and the Slugs: Real Enough
6. Dr. John: When You’re Smiling
7. Laura Marling: Interludes (Time Passages)
There were many more tunes covered there and back and several that we put on repeat. Shared music is a great way to pass the time. Ian brought his guitar along and we also sang songs with his sister, Elaine, who has a lovely voice and was an amateur folk singer and chorister herself back in day.
Apart from the musical interludes, I tried to take some artsy photos of the landscape along the autoroute to pass the time. This pic is heavily edited.

And to be sure, there were deflated Christmas inflatables in Almonte too!

What music do you like to listen to on a road trip? Do you prefer to drive or ride shotgun?
